Tuohinen Product Family was a team work with Riku Toivonen and Mikko Lanne. Our bachelor’s thesis introduces a product family made by experimental upholstery weaving technique and the process behind it. The guiding element in our thesis was the process and experiments. The results for structural and visual solutions were exposed through multiple experiments. With the furniture solutions we wanted to improve the atmosphere and working-environment in the new Niemi campus. Our bachelor’s thesis is presenting the product family including the three different prototypes. Tuohinen-product family consists of a sofa, tatami-modules and a hammock.

SOFA
This sofa is the second prototype in a bigger product family for home- and working-environments. Inspiration for this project originates from weaving bark, only instead of bark, we weave pillow tubes.
Huge hammocks, sofas, lounge chairs and lounge mats can be made by knitting together various coloured tubes. Colours and fabrics can be selected to suite different purposes.
